League of Fat Bastards Aims to Bring Men’s Mental Health to Light Through Cigars

There’s no denying that mental health is an issue that needs to be not just talked about more, but acted upon more. I’m hopeful that this new cigar will help move the needle on getting more men—and people in general—to understand what mental health means and prioritize their own mental health and the mental health of the people they care about.

Miami Man Arrested With Counterfeit Packaging for More Than $1 Million of Cuban Cigars

I’ve heard tales of counterfeit Cuban cigars coming out of Miami for years—and I’m pretty confident that I know at least one person who swore they were getting a deal on Montecristo No.2s through “their guy in Miami.” But it’s another thing to actually see the photos of not just boxes and bands, but of a person seemingly produce those cigars. Sometimes you have to see it to believe it, as was the case with this story for me.

Vermont House of Representatives Passes Flavored Tobacco Ban

Flavored tobacco bans are going to be a theme in the near-term future, and Vermont is poised to become the next state to pass such a ban. The legislature has been working on a ban for the last six years or so, including last year when the Senate passed its version of this bill, but it died in a House committee. Now the House has taken up and approved the ban, sending it back to the Senate for concurrence. But it remains uncertain as to whether it will become law, as the governor has acknowledged the seeming conflict between public health and losing the tax revenue from the sale of flavored tobacco.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
