A bill that would have banned smoking and vaping at state parks and beaches in Florida has died in committee.

S.B. 1576 would have modified state law to ban smoking and vaping at state beaches and parks. Its failure to pass means smoking and vaping will remain legal in state parks. Thanks to a 2022 law, cities are able to ban smoking and vaping at city-owned parks and beaches. Notably, the 2022 law includes a carveout for “unfiltered cigars,” meaning you can still smoke those at city-owned parks and beaches.

While the Florida Senate Environment and Natural Resources Committee voted 7-0 in favor of S.B. 1576, it died in the Senate Appropriations Committee on Agriculture, Environment and General Government.
