At the 2024 PCA Convention & Trade Show later this month, Dissident Cigars will show off its tribute to punk rock legend Wendy O. Williams with a new limited edition cigar line called Plasmatic.

The cigar is a 5 1/2 x 52 robusto that uses dual wrappers: one a Sumatra-seed and the other Connecticut-seed, though the company has not yet confirmed their country of origin. Under that barber pole wrappers is an Ecuadorian binder and a filler of Dominican and Nicaragua tobacco. The company describes the profile as being creamy with floral, earth, spice and nutty notes. The cigar is produced at Fábrica Oveja Negra in Estelí, Nicaragua.

“Wendy O. Williams is an icon of punk rock decadence & attitude who is known for going against social norms, her over-the-top on-stage antics, and for questioning authority,” said Cynn Coburn, owner and blender of Dissident Cigars, in a press release. “If that’s not living the life of a Dissident, we don’t know what is! The Plasmatic is a tribute to her rebellious lifestyle and legacy!”

Pricing is set at $12.50 per cigar, and Plasmatic is packed in 20-count boxes with artwork featuring Coburn and containing a Wendy O. Williams lyric that reminds the consumer that each person is responsible for the life the choose to live.

Williams was the lead singer of the Plasmatics and was nominated for a Grammy award during her solo career.

The company is not announcing production numbers, but did say that it hopes to have the cigars shipping in early April.

Update — added pricing, a shipping date and confirmed that production numbers are not being disclosed.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
