PCA 2021: Dissident

Dissident is once again in the Oveja Negra Brands booth. While there is nothing officially new at the show, owner Benjamin Holt took a moment to tell me about what they were highlighting this year.

Originally, Holt was planning on using the 2020 PCA Convention & Trade Show—which was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic—to showcase the Rant, Rave & Tirade lines. Since that show didn’t happen, instead of waiting a full year to send them to retailers, they were released in October 2020. Now, he’s making the trio of smokes the focal point of his portion of the Oveja Negra Brands booth.

I have been smoking cigars since 2005 and reviewing them as a hobby since 2010. Initially, I started out small with a 50-count humidor and only smoking one or two cigars a month. Not knowing anybody else that smoked cigars, it was only an occasional hobby that I took part in. In March of 2010, I joined Nublive and Cigar Asylum, connecting me with many people who also shared an interest in cigars. Reading what they had to say about brands I had never heard of, I quickly immersed myself in the boutique brands of the industry and it was then that cigars transformed from a hobby into a passion.
