Next month, a new cigar company called Domain Cigars, created by Esteban Disla and Daniel Lance, with what it calls a singular aim to redefine the standard of the cigar industry.

Disla is a cigar-making veteran, most recently spending just over 10 years at the Fábrica de Tabacos Nica Sueño S.A., the Estelí, Nicaragua factory that is home to RoMa Craft Tobac. Prior to that, he worked at Latin Cigars S.A., the factory now known as STG Estelí, creating blends for CAO, Toraño, Alec Bradley, and some 30 other companies, according to a press release.

Lance has been in the cigar industry for 17 years, having started in retail, working for Outlaw Cigar Company and Fidel’s Cigar Shop. He is also the co-founder of Lujo Concepts, which produces the BTX cigar cutter. Beyond cigars, he has advised government agencies and played a role in modernizing critical infrastructure, as well as helping two startups in industrial cybersecurity.

The company is debuting with two lines: Neutron and Negentropy.

Neutron is described as a medium-intensity blend that uses a Mexican San Andrés wrapper, a dual binder of Nicaraguan tobacco, and fillers from Nicaragua’s Condega and Pueblo Nuevo regions. Negentropy uses an Ecuadorian habano wrapper, a double binder of Nicaraguan tobacco, and filler from Nicaragua’s Condega region. The company says that this blend is “fused with high energy, that culminates in a clean finish while delivering impactful intensity.”

Both cigars are produced at Tabacalera Familia Disla S.A. in Estelí and are offered in nine sizes, which are all offered in 20-count boxes:

  • Neutron / Negentropy Revlent (4 x 52) — $9.99 (Box of 20, $199.80)
  • Neutron / Negentropy Robusto Extra (5 x 52) — $11.49 (Box of 20, $229.80)

The company says that it has extended invitations to 100 retailers for the launch of the company, with its initial batch of cigars scheduled to ship in April.

Domain has also created a third blend called No7B that was included with a sampler sent to those 100 retailers, which the company says could become a commercially released line in the future.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
