While there are many companies that celebrate anniversaries, Topper Cigar holds the distinction of being the oldest continuously-operated, family-owned cigar company in the U.S.
This year marks the company’s 130th year in business, and it is celerating the achievement by introducing a new line that pays tribute to the year it all started: 1894.
The new Topper 1894 uses a combination of habano-seed tobacco grown in the U.S. and American-seed tobacco grown in the Dominican Republic.
It is made at De Los Reyes in the Dominican Republic and will be offered in three sizes:
- Topper 1894 Robusto (5 x 50)
- Topper 1894 Corona (6 x 44)
- Topper 1894 Toro (6 x 54)
Topper says that pricing will be announced when the cigars are shown off to retailers during next week’s 2024 PCA Convention & Trade Show, which takes place in Las Vegas. The Topper 1894 is expected to begin shipping in May.
“I was thrilled to discover a letter penned by my great-grandfather,” said Chris Topper, president of Topper Cigar, in a press release. “Dated 1921 and featuring a vintage Topper Cigar logo, this letter unveiled a richer narrative for our brand and positions Topper Cigar as the oldest family owned and operated cigar company in the country. In light of this historical revelation, it was only fitting to develop a new line of cigars that honors my family’s legacy and delivers a new product that appeals to today’s cigar smokers.”
