Three years ago—as part of its 50th anniversary celebration—Joya de Nicaragua added a bolder version of its Clásico blend as an exclusive for international stores. This summer, that cigar will be heading to stores in the U.S.

The cigar is the Joya de Nicaragua Clásico Medio Siglo, which uses a habano criollo wrapper over a Nicaraguan binder and Nicaraguan fillers.

In the U.S., it will be offered in four sizes, three of which are also sold in Europe and one—the 6 x 60 Gordo—that is a new size exclusive to the U.S.:

  • Joya de Nicaragua Clásico Medio Siglo Gordo (6 x 60) — $10.50 (Box of 25, $262.50)
  • Joya de Nicaragua Clásico Medio Siglo Toro (6 x 50) — $9.25 (Box of 25, $231.25)
  • Joya de Nicaragua Clásico Medio Siglo Número 6 (6 x 41) — $8.25 (Box of 25, $206.25)
  • Joya de Nicaragua Clásico Medio Siglo Robusto (5 x 50) — $8.75 (Box of 25, $218.75)

“The criollo wrapper in the Clásico isn’t a new concept. In fact, until the late 1990s, our primary brand was the Clasico in two expressions: claro and colorado, or criollo,” said Juan Ignacio Martínez, executive president of Joya de Nicaragua S.A., in a press release. “The change was subtle, just a sticker on the box indicating ‘natural or criollo.’ We’re not reinventing the wheel
here; rather, we’re reviving a legendary brand for the palates of today’s cigar aficionados. This approach has already seen tremendous success globally, and now it’s the US smoker’s turn to enjoy it.”

Joya de Nicaragua will preview the Joya de Nicaragua Clásico Medio Siglo for retailers at the 2024 PCA Convention & Trade Show, which takes place March 23-25 in Las Vegas, and says the cigars will ship to stores this summer.

The cigars will only be available to stores that are part of Joya’s Club de Amigos of JDN, a retailer loyalty program.
