Habanos S.A. Announces Festival del Habano XXIV Humidors for Auction

This is one of the posts that results in me getting a lot of texts and e-mails asking both what my favorite one is and how much I think this year’s auction will generate. Last year’s auction raised just under $12 million, shattering previous records, and I have to think this year’s will at least challenge that mark. The auction represents an incredibly small segment of the market, but I find it fascinating to see just how much money changes hands at this annual event.

Best Cigar Prices Hosting Smoke-onos in May

It’s not every day that we write about events like this, but to see a new one launch—and to do so with the roster of cigar industry figures scheduled to be in attendance that this event promises—caught the attention of both me and Charlie Minato. I’m all for any event that brings cigar smokers together and allows them to mee the people behind those cigars, so I hope this event is the first of many successful ones.

Colorado Senate Passes Bill Allowing Counties to Ban Flavored Tobacco Products

Flavored tobacco legislation is poised to be one of the big topics of 2024, and Colorado is closing in on passing a bill that would allow for the creation of sales bans at the county level. I found this interesting because other states have moved to prohibit cities and counties from enacting such bans as well as other regulations that are stricter than state law, citing preemption, but also coming with scrutiny that state legislators were succumbing to lobbying from the tobacco industry and not letting local lawmakers do what they feel is best for their constituents.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
