Pure Aroma Cigars, the parent company of the D’Crossier brand, has announced the upcoming release of a new line created by company president Isaias Santana Diaz and Armando Artamendia of Aficionado’s Premium Cigars & Wine in Pembroke Pines, Fla.

The Armando Artamendi Cabinet Selection Sun Grown was blended by Diaz and Andres León, owner of Tabacos de Costa Rica, and uses an Ecuadorian habano colorado wrapper that the company says undergoes a triple fermentation over a period of 10 months, followed by one year of aging in Spanish cedar boxes. Underneath that wrapper is a binder of undisclosed origin , and fillers from the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua’s Jalapa region that have been aged for five years. Once rolled, the cigars are aged for 120 days in aging rooms, and then another 120 days in Spanish cedar boxes.

A press release describes the blend as having a medium-plus profile, highlighted by sweet and floral tobacco notes that get complemented by cocoa and cedar.

The cigars are being produced at Tabacos de Costa Rica and are being offered in two sizes:

  • Armando Artamendi Cabinet Selection Sun Grown Robusto Extra (5 1/2 x 54) – $14 (Box of 25, $350)
  • Armando Artamendi Cabinet Selection Sun Grown Enormous (6 x 60) — $15 (Box of 12, $180)

Both sizes come in Spanish cedar boxes, with more sizes planned for future release, according to Diaz.

The project came about after a meeting at Artamendi’s shop in 2019, when the shop owner expressed his dream of creating a cigar line. Diaz got to work creating blends that were inspired by and would honor Artamendi’s Cuban heritage.

The new line is set to begin shipping to retailers on March 1.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
