The 2024 edition of the Dominican Republic’s Procigar Festival will take place Feb. 18-23, 2024.
Given that the festival typically takes place the week after Valentine’s Day, these dates are not surprising. Procigar is the name of both the event and the Dominican cigar manufacturer’s association that hosts the event. The event is one of three of the established cigar festivals: Nicaragua’s Puro Sabor takes place in January, while Cuba’s Festival del Habano typically takes place the week after Procigar, though occasionally, the two events have taken place during the same week.
The Procigar Festival is split into two parts. Most attendees only attend the second segment, which takes place in Santiago de los Caballeros, home to most of the cigar factories in the country. That portion begins the evening of Tuesday, Feb. 20 and concludes on Friday, Feb. 23. A small percentage of the total attendees will also attend the optional part in the eastern part of the island, which typically includes a visit to Tabacalera de García in La Romana and a stay at Casa de Campo. Typically, Procigar will transport these guests from La Romana to Santiago on that Tuesday.
Once in Santiago, the festival includes daily tours to a cigar factory or tobacco field as well as evening parties, including traditions like the White Party, held at Santiago’s most famous monument, and a closing gala that features a humidor auction. The festival allows attendees intimate access to Dominican cigar companies and direct access to the country’s most prominent cigarmakers.
