Procigar 2022 is now open for registration, meaning those who wish to attend the Dominican Republic’s cigar festival can secure their spots.

After canceling this year’s event due to the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic, Procigar will return from Feb. 22-25 in Santiago de los Caballeros, the heart of the Dominican cigar industry.

However, the event will be changing in 2022 for some of the festival’s participants. For Procigar 2022, the organization has dropped the optional visit to La Romana that precedes the main part of the festival that takes place in Santiago.

Typically, this portion of the event has taken place at Casa de Campo, a resort, from Sunday-Tuesday and is done so people can see Tabacalera de García, the world’s largest cigar factory, which is located in La Romana, on the far eastern side of the island. In years past, the vast majority of Procigar attendees did not attend the La Romana portion

Instead, the event will now simply kick off on Tuesday, starting with registration and a cocktail hour. For the next two days, guests tour fields and facilities, learn about cigar blending and the production process, and have the opportunity to meet and mingle with manufacturers. Evenings consist of dinners held throughout the city, including one known as the white party that is held at the Monumento a los Héroes de la Restauración, a central monument in the city.

The festival will wrap up with a Members Field Day, a concept introduced in 2019, and then with a gala dinner featuring an auction of art and cigars, many coming in unique humidors made just for the event.
