At next month’s Premium Cigar Association (PCA) Convention & Trade Show, La Aurora will be showcasing its newest Puro Vintage release, the Puro Vintage 2014.
As the name implies, the tobacco comes from the 2014 crop, using an Ecuadorian Havana-seed wrapper, a Brazilian binder, and fillers from the Dominican Republic, Colombia and Nicaragua. The company described the profile as offering “dark woody notes, leather, walnuts, and rich nuances of wild honeys, all complemented by the elegance of the bitter taste from dark cocoa and hints of dried tropical fruits,” in a press release announcing the cigar.
It is being offered in a 6 1/2 x 50/60 salomon vitola priced at $26.50 per cigar and $212 for a box of eight cigars.
Production is extremely limited, with just 1,000 boxes produced by the La Aurora Cigar Factory, making for a total run of just 8,000 cigars. Shipping is expected to begin in mid-April.
“The Salomon format gives this cigar a very special smoke,” said Manuel Inoa, master blender at La Aurora, in a press release. “Its shape, the doble figurado, makes it evolve differently as it opens and closes the ring during the burning, accumulating strength at the end. A real festival of taste from around the world.”
The La Aurora Puro Vintage series, which debuted in 2008 and has seen several release since, is described as being “the culmination of Master Blender Manuel Inoa’s work compiling the finest tobacco crops (or vintages) worldwide into a single cigar each year,” with the company adding that the use of the term “vintage” originated with a European audience in mind.
