Nearly every cigar in J.C. Newman’s extensive portfolio is increasing in price next year.

In a letter to retailers sent by Cristal Lastra, the company’s vp of sales and marketing, J.C. Newman says the increase is “because of increased manufacturing and FDA compliance costs.” The new prices will take effect on Jan. 18, 2021.

The following lines will have their MSRPs increased by 25 cents per cigar:

  • Diamond Crown Classic Natural
  • Diamond Crown Classic Maduro
  • Diamond Crown Maximus
  • Diamond Crown Julius Caeser
  • Diamond Crown Black Diamond
  • Yagua

The following lines will have their MSRPs increased by 20 cents per cigar:

  • Brick House
  • Brick House Double Connecticut
  • Brick House Maduro
  • Cuesta-Rey Cabinet
  • Cuesta-Rey Centenario Maduro
  • Cuesta-Rey Centenario Natural
  • Cuesta-Rey Centro Fino
  • El Baton
  • La Unica Natural
  • La Unica Maduro
  • Perla del Mar Corojo
  • Perla del Mar Maduro
  • Perla del Mar Shade

The following line will have its MSRP increased by 15 cents per cigar:

  • El Reloj Ocho

The following line will have its MSRP increased by 10 cents per cigar:

  • Rigoletto

The following lines will have their MSRPs increased by 5 cents per cigar:

  • Cuesta-Rey Tampa
  • Rigoletto Tampa*

*The Black Jack size is increasing by more than 5 cents per cigar, sometimes as much as 10 cents. 

The following lines are increasing what is effectively 6 cents per cigar for MSRP if a retailer uses a standard pricing model. J.C. Newman doesn’t list MSRPs for any of these lines:

There’s a price adjustment for The American that results in some sizes being less expensive than before:

  • The American No.1 (7 x 47) — $18
  • The American No.2 (6 x 54) — $17.50
  • The American No.3 (4 1/2 x 50) — $16
  • The American No.4 (6 1/8 x 52 Torpedo) — $18

The Don Seville Valencia Maduro has been removed from the pricelist.
