The third redux in Tatuaje’s Monster Series will be shipping to stores this week, as Pete Johnson told halfwheel that Tatuaje will begin shipping the cigars to stores by the end of this week.

The Face Redux 3 is a a 6 3/8 x 56 toro gordo vitola that uses a Mexican San Andrés wrapper over Nicaraguan binders and fillers. Tatuaje is producing 5,000 boxes of 13 cigars, a total of 65,000 cigars, for this redux release. Of those 5,000 boxes, 700 are individually numbered, while the other 4,300 are not. Pricing is set at $13 per cigar and $169 per box, regardless of whether it is numbered or not.

Tatuaje’s The Face became recognizable for using a jaggedly cut piece of Ecuadorian Connecticut tobacco to serve as the band, a nod to the movie monster Leatherface from the Texas Chainsaw Massacre series, who was known for wearing a mask made of a person’s skin. Like its Monster Series predecessors, The Frank and The Drac, it came in boxes designed to look like coffins, complete with red paint splattered on them to mimic the look of blood. Only 13 retailers would get those dress boxes, which were limited to 666 individually numbered pieces, while a more traditional 10-count box was also created for widespread release. In total, 21,658 cigars were released for The Face.

The Face was also notable for being the first modern movie monster to be selected for Tatuaje’s Monster Series line, as Frankenstein and Dracula, both classic movie monsters, served as the inspiration for the first two releases in the series.

In September 2021, Tatuaje announced the release of redux versions of the Monster Series cigars in the same order in which they were initially released. There would be two notable differences, however, as the cigars would come in new packaging and with significantly more cigars being produced. In the case of The Frank, just 8,658 cigars were produced for the original release, while 65,000 cigars were produced for the redux. The Drac Redux 2 shipped to stores the following year, in October 2022, with 4,000 boxes of 13 cigars created, a total of 52,000 cigars, compared to 16,900 for the original release.

In the years between the Monster Series’ debut and the launch of the Monster Series Redux, Tatuaje has released several extensions to the Monster Series, including the Monster Mash, a sampler that included all of the Monster Series releases in a slightly shorter vitolas than the original. There have also been the Pudgy Monsters, Little Monsters, and a trio of releases under the Skinny Monsters name, including the Skinny Monsters Lanceros and Skinny Monsters Cazadores.\

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
