Oliva Cigar Co. has announced that it will increase the prices of its products by either 5 percent or 7 percent, effective Jan. 15, 2024.

In a letter to retailers, the company cited a variety of issues as the reason for the price increases. “As I’m sure you are aware, inflation over the last year has been remained sticky not only in the USA, but overseas as well,” said the letter, which was sent from “The Oliva Family.” “The cost of labor in Nicaragua has increased heavily and thanks to the El Nino weather pattern long periods of heavy rains have made for a challenging growing season.”

The following lines will increase by 5 percent:

  • Cain
  • Flor de Oliva
  • Oliva Master Blends 3
  • NUb
  • Samplers

The following lines will increase by 7 percent:

  • Gilberto Oliva
  • Oliva Connecticut Reserve
  • Oliva Serie G
  • Oliva Serie O
  • Oliva Serie V
  • Oliva Serie V Melanio

These changes only affect the U.S. market. Last month, Oliva informed its international distributors of price increases, some of which will take effect on Jan. 1 though the Serie V and Serie V Melanio increases have already gone into effect in some markets.

While a select group of companies—notably Altadis U.S.A. and Davidoff of Geneva USA—announced price increases in Q3 and earlier in Q4, most cigar companies announce their price increases around the new year. Below is a list of companies that have announced whether they will have a price increase heading into 2024.
