Gurkha Cigars has just released a new sampler for the holiday season, and inside is the debut of a new line as well as a cigar that will likely be new to U.S.-based cigar smokers.

Debuting in the sampler is the Colección Especial Maduro, an extension to the company’s Colección Especial line that debuted in 2022. The company is not disclosing the blend, but did say that the line is being produced by Tabacalera El Artista in the Dominican Republic.

The Gurkha Dragonfly, a line that has only been available in non-U.S. markets, makes its U.S. debut by way of the new sampler. According to the company’s website, the Dragonfly uses an Ecuadorian habano-seed wrapper, a Sumatra wrapper, and a filler of Dominican, criollo 98, and Nicaragua Esteli tobaccos. It is also produced by El Artista.

As for the other four cigars in the sampler, they are:

  • Gurkha Cellar Reserve 15 Year
  • Gurkha Cellar Reserve 18 Year
  • Gurkha Cellar Reserve 21 Year
  • Gurkha 35th Anniversary

All six lines are being presented in a 6 x 54 toro vitola for this sampler.

The Gurkha 35th Anniversary is the most recent new release in the group, having shipped to stores in late October 2023, though it was as part of a humidor release celebrating the company’s 35th anniversary.

Pricing for the new sampler, which includes a double-blade guillotine cutter, is set at $89.95. A total of 6,000 samplers have been produced.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
