The Oscar Maduro from Oscar Valladares Tobacco & Co. is getting a new size this week, as the company has announced plans to unveil a corona vitola for the line at the Tobacco Plus Expo (TPE) trade show.

It’s a 5 1/4 x 44 vitola, and like the rest of the line that debuted in 2017, it uses a Mexican San Andrés maduro wrapper, Honduran binder and fillers from Honduras and Nicaragua. It comes wrapped in a candela leaf to be removed prior to smoking and is packed in 11-count boxes designed to look like the cigar molds used to make cigars. Each box is priced at $104.50, which works out to $9.50 per cigar.

The Oscar Maduro line, which was an extension to 2016’s The Oscar Habano, now stands at four sizes:

It joins the recently announced Super Fly Connecticut as Valladares’ new cigars that will be shown off at TPE, which runs from Jan. 29-31 in Las Vegas.

Additionally, the company has confirmed that it will not be raising prices on its lines in 2020.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
