Roughly three years after its originally anticipated release date, the Quai d’Orsay Selection Royale Edición Regional Suiza will be arriving at La Casa del Habano locations in the country on Tuesday, March 28.
The cigar is offered in the 109 vitola, a double robusto that measures 7 1/4 inches (184cm) long and has a 50 ring gauge and is notable for the softer shoulders and flat top of its head. While this is the first time that the 109 vitola has been used for a Quai d’Orsay Edición Regional, the Selection Royale ER Switzerland marks the third time that Intertabak AG, the distributor of Habanos S.A. in Switzerland, has selected the vitola for an Edición Regional. It joins the Punch Clasicos, which was released in 2011, and the La Gloria Cubana Orgullosos, which came out in 2018.
The cigar had been slated to be released in 2020 in celebration of the 25th anniversary of Intertabak A.G., an event commemorated on the secondary band that the cigar wears. However, delays related to the COVID-19 pandemic and other production challenges pushed its release back.
The packaging is also getting upgraded, as each box comes in a decorative outer packaging with a gold and black design that further enhances the cigar’s designation as a regional edition. It features the Quai d’Orsay brand logo which, in homage to Switzerland, traces a horizon line passing by the Matterhorn and the Chapel Bridge in Lucerne, followed by the Fraumünster and Grossmünster churches in Zürich and ending with the Parliament building in Berne.
Production is capped at 80,000 cigars, with 1,600 sliding-lid boxes of 50 cigars produced. Pricing is set at CHF 1500 ($1,624.42) per box, which works out to CHF 30 ($32.48) per cigar.
After being released via La Casa del Habano locations, the Quai d’Orsay Selection Royale ER Switzerland will be released to Habanos Specialist retailers on April 4.
