Next month, Davidoff will close out the AVO Improvisation Series with not one, but two different cigars.

The company is calling the pair of cigars The Closing Improvisation, a nod to the series and the brand’s founder, the late pianist and composer Avo Uvezian. Both cigars measure 5 1/2 x 55, though the blends are entirely different. The AVO Improvisation LE22 Black uses an Ecuadorian wrapper over a Mexican binder and fillers from the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua. The AVO Improvisation LE22 White uses an Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper over a Dominican binder and fillers from the Dominican Republic.

Both cigars will come in the same box, a 22-count box that contains 11 of each cigar. The 22 is significant not just referencing this year, but Uvezian was born on March 22 and the brand has oftentimes used the 22 for significant releases. For example, the cigars will ship to stores on March 22, 2022. In addition, Davidoff says the alternating appearance in the box is made to mimic the keys on a piano.

Each cigar has an MSRP of $16. It will be limited to 1,500 boxes in the U.S.

“The AVO Improvisation 2022 packaging memorializes both the luxury and musical inspiration of the AVO Lines. The box utilizes black and gold color themes to reflect the two most commonly observed colors in a symphony,” said Edward Simon, chief marketing officer at Oettinger Davidoff, in a press release. “Additionally we see the contrasting nature of these two blends reflected to the surface with this box design. The ‘Closing Improvisation’ showcases two distinct yet complimentary blends to pair with various occasions, times of the day, and flavor and intensity preferences of the aficionado.”

The Improvisation Series began in 2015, replacing the AVO LE Series, which typically comprised of a single limited edition cigar released in March. While the first handful of Improvisation Series releases differed a bit—they weren’t necessarily released in March—the series has more or less functioned the same as the original AVO LE program since 2017.

This year’s releases will bring the series to 11 cigars.
