For the second year in a row, Brizard & Co. and J.C. Newman Cigar Co. are collaborating for a limited edition run of cigar cases centered around The American.

Brizard & Co., a California-based accessory company, is making The American Black Bison Cigar Case. In keeping in line with The American—a cigar brand from J.C. Newman that is made entirely of American components—each case is made of leather from a bison from Ted Turner’s Turner Bison Program in Montana. The inside of the case is lined with Spanish cedar from The American cigar boxes and comes with two Spanish cedar dividers so that three cigars—up to 60 ring gauge—can be stored inside. The outside of the case has red piping on the bison leather and brass accents, including a serialized number plate.

“One of the fundamental requests from J.C. Newman was to have, like the cigar, a 100 percent American-made product,” said Cyril Brizard, owner of Brizard & Co., in a press release. “Bison leather is supple, with many characteristics ranging from natural wrinkles, pebble grains and is four times as resistant as regular cow leather.”

Each case comes with The American Robusto (4 1/2 x 50) cigars. While the cigars are the same blend as the regular production version, they were rolled in 2020—meaning these are aged versions—and come with a secondary band. J.C. Newman is currently not found on the regular versions of The American, though J.C. Newman plans on adding that secondary band to the regular The American cigars.

“I am very proud that The American Black Bison Cigar Case is a 100 percent American luxury product,” said Drew Newman of J.C. Newman Cigar Co. “Bison is an iconic American animal. Because it is handcrafted in America with American components, this case honors the history of the United States and the tradition of American cigar-making.”

The MSRP for each case is $350 and production is limited to 350 numbered cases. They are expected to begin shipping in mid-July.

The two companies collaborated for a different limited edition leather case last year, again centered around The American.
