At the 2022 Tobacco Plus Expo this week, Dapper Cigar Co. unveiled a new regular production line for its portfolio, the Cubata Cru.

The blend uses an Ecuadorian Connecticut shade grown wrapper with a sweetened cap, Nicaraguan binder and fillers from the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua. It is produced at Nicaragua American Cigars S.A. in Estelí and is being offered in four sizes:

  • Cubata Cru Blimey (4 1/2 x 40) — $6.98 (Box of 40, $279.04)
  • Cubata Cru Blunderbuss (5 x 54) — $10.35 (Box of 20, $207)
  • Cubata Cru Bucko (6 x 44) — $9.87 (Box of 20, $197.40)
  • Cubata Cru Bumbo (6 1/8 x 52) — $11.16 (Box of 20, $223.22)

The Cubata Cru has already begun shipping to retailers.

This is the second time that Dapper has used the Cubata Cru name; the first time was in 2018 when he unveiled a version that also offered a rum sweetening. The line resulted out of a partnership with Cigars Ltd., a retailer that is based in Fresno, Calif., which is also home to Dapper. The line was originally produced at La Aurora but has since been moved to NACSA.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury, the G-League's Valley Suns, and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
