This year marks the 25th anniversary of the founding of the VegaFina brand. As expected, the brand is commemorating the accomplishment with special cigars.

The VegaFina 1998 25 Aniversario Cum Laude is one such cigar. It’s a 6 1/2 x 52 toro extra with a pigtail, a size that has not been used for any previous VegaFinad. The blend is centered around Dominican piloto corona tobacco, which the company says is found at the top of select piloto cubano tobacco plants, similar to medio tiempo tobacco. It appears to use the same blend as the standard VegaFina 1998, a regular production line that was introduced in 2020: an Ecuadorian HVA wrapper over an Indonesian binder and fillers from Colombia, the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua. Production is handled at Tabacalera de García in La Romana, the Dominican Republic.

This release is limited to 5,000 numbered boxes of 25 cigars. The boxes are designed to double as humidors, including both a hygrometer and a humidifier.

Like most VegaFinas, the 1998 25 Aniversario Cum Laude will be sold in markets worldwide excluding the U.S. Spain will be the first country to receive the cigar, which is expected to happen this month.

VegaFina is owned by Tabacalera S.L.U., part of the same group that owns Altadis U.S.A., JR Cigar, Tabacalera de García and others.
