Cohiba (non-Cuban)

It’s the first box-pressed Cohiba. It’s the first Cohiba to use a Mexican San Andrés wrapper. It’s not the first Cohiba to come in a purple box.

The fourth addition to General Cigar Co.’s Cohiba Spectre line is the most expensive Spectre so far.

The Riviera marks the first time there’s a Cohiba with a Mexican wrapper. It’s also thew first time that a Cohiba is box-pressed. Unlike most non-Cuban Cohibas, it is made in Nicaragua instead of the Dominican Republic.

This marks the first time that there’s a Cohiba with a Mexican wrapper as well as the first time General Cigar Co. has released a box-pressed Cohiba.

The 2023 version of the Cohiba Serie M will be a 7 x 50 Churchill size known as the Prominente.

In December 2022, a U.S. trademark court ruled in favor of Cubatabaco, the Cuban cigar monopoly, over its near 30-year dispute with General Cigar Co. over who should own the U.S. trademark for Cohiba. Now, General is firing back with a new lawsuit.

RIP to the 2023 packaging awards.

Unlike the first incarnation from 2021, the second incarnation of Weller by Cohiba actually includes tobacco that has been aged in barrels that previously held bourbon.

Two days late and a dollar short, it’s time to think about some big storylines for the cigar industry in 2023.

General Cigar Co.’s registration of the Cohiba brand name has been canceled by the TTAB, but don’t expect the brand to disappear from store shelves in the immediate future.
