Rojas Cigars has announced a pair of changes to its popular Street Tacos and Breakfast Tacos lines, as the former is getting more a bit more expensive and the latter is getting a bit bigger ring gauge.

The Rojas Street Tacos line, which is available in two blends called Barbacoa and Carnitas, will be seeing the MSRP of individual cigars go up by about 30 cents, though the specific increase that a consumer sees will be dependent upon their local tax rates and how those are applied to the final cost of the cigar.

The change, which went into effect today, now has the line priced as follows:

  • Rojas Street Tacos Barbacoa/Carnitas Short Corona Box-Press (5 1/2 x 46) — $8.65 (Box of 16, $138.40)
  • Rojas Street Tacos Barbacoa/Carnitas Robusto Box-Press (5 x 50) — $9.15 (Box of 16, $146.40)
  • Rojas Street Tacos Barbacoa/Carnitas Toro Box-Press (6 x 50) — $9.40 (Box of 16, $150.40)

Albert Cisneros, the company’s national sales manager, told halfwheel that an increase in the cost of the raw materials needed to make the cigars necessitated the increase. The Carnitas blend uses an Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper over a Nicaraguan binder and filler, while the Barbacoa blend uses an Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper over a Nicaraguan binder and filler.

As for the Rojas Breakfast Tacos line, the cigar will be getting a bit thicker, as the company is moving from a 46-ring gauge to a 50-ring gauge. Cisneros said that this change came largely from the requests of the people making the cigars, as the rollers found it challenging to produce the cigar in that size due to the way leaves had to be cut to achieve the petit perfecto shape.

Pricing on the Rojas Breakfast Tacos line is not changing, with the MSRP staying at $6 per cigar. It will also stay 4 1/2 inches long and retain its petit perfecto shape. The company has just started sending out the first shipments of the 50-ring gauge version, though Cisneros noted that there are still some of the 46-ring gauge version in the company’s warehouse, and they will also be used to fill orders.

Interestingly, when the Rojas Breakfast Tacos Maduro was reviewed by halfwheel in May 2023, the three cigars smoked for the review were all measured at a 42-ring gauge.

The Rojas Breakfast Tacos line is offered in three versions: an Ecuadorian Connecticut, a Mexican San Andrés maduro, and an Ecuadorian Sumatra, all using Nicaraguan binders and fillers grown by Rojas Cigars.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
