For the last year, Plasencia Cigars has been hinting that it had a very limited $100 cigar. That cigar is now arriving at stores.
It’s called the Plasencia Alma del Fuego Ometepe Edición Limitada, a 6 x 54 torpedo. Notably, the company says that this is the first cigar that has used a wrapper grown in Ometepe, Nicaragua. While many cigars have used fillers from Ometepe, Plasencia says this is the only cigar to use a wrapper from the island. Ometepe is located in Lake Nicaragua and houses two volcanoes—Concepción and Maderas—which are connected by a small lowland area in between. The company named the strand of tobacco Hoja del Fuego. The binder and filler are also from Nicaragua, though the company has not named which parts.
At the 2024 PCA Convention & Trade Show, Plasencia had one of the humidor boxes on display in a conference room, but that’s hardly the only interesting packaging feature. Each cigar is packaged inside a handblown glass tube. Each box contains 20 cigars and pricing is set at $2,000 per box.
“This cigar is a remarkable work of art. Since 1865, we have nurtured and cultivated tobacco, and at last, we have successfully grown a wrapper of unparalleled beauty in Ometepe, Nicaragua,” said Néstor Andres Plasencia in a press release. “The island of Ometepe is of great significance to our family as it has been to the Indigenous peoples of this region. We celebrate this achievement with the Plasencia Alma del Fuego Ometepe Edición Limitada.”
This is the second blend to use the Alma del Fuego line. Plasencia introduced the regular production Alma del Fuego line in 2019, which includes tobaccos from Ometepe in the binder and filler.
