Come this spring, the Oliva Serie V Melanio Maduro will expand to both a 7 x 50 churchill and 5 x 52 robusto. The new sizes are part of the 2014 release of the Melanio Maduro, a series introduced last year under the premise that it would almost certainly return annually.
The cigars will feature a Mexican San Andrés wrapper, the same as the Oliva Serie V Melanio Maduro Torpedo. In all likelihood, they will carry similar price points to their non-maduro counterparts making the Melanio Maduro Robusto just under $10 and the Churchill priced at $13.65—although the company has not finalized pricing.
Oliva will preview the cigars in March at the D.C. Cigar TweetUp, which takes place March 14-15. Each attendee of the event will get a chance to smoke at least one of the new sizes, but the cigars will not be on sale until later in the year.
Last year, the company tried to have the Melanio Maduro released by Father’s Day, it’s unclear whether the June 15 date will once again being targeted this year. A representative from the company said “mid spring” was the estimated release date.
The two cigars will make for three versions of the Melanio Maduro and 11 total sizes of the Oliva Serie V Melanio. The most recent addition, the Double Toro, began shipping to accounts in mid-February.
Oliva joins Asylum Cigars, Dante, EH Cigars, Miami Cigar & Co. and RoMa Craft Tobac as companies all debuting products or releasing exclusive products at the D.C. Cigar TweetUp.
