In 2022, S.T. Dupont—the French humidor and accessories maker—celebrated its 150th anniversary. As part of the celebrations, the company collaborated with Habanos S.A., something it is increasingly doing more of these days. Most of the times, these collaborations follow a simple formula: S.T. Dupont creates special colorways of its accessories that feature popular Cuban cigar brands like Cohiba or Trinidad. But for S.T. Dupont’s 150th anniversary, the collaboration was much more involved.

The two companies created the Montecristo L’Esprit Collection. Habanos S.A. provided an exclusive Montecristo that can only be found inside of the L’Esprit humidors, while S.T. Dupont provided the humidors as well as accompanying lighters—plural—a cutter, ashtray, cigar case, pens and cufflinks. There are three different versions of the humidors—Le Crépuscule, La Nuit and L’Aurore—each focused on a different stage of the night. While the cigars inside are the same, the design of the humidors vary between the three versions. Last December, the first version—Le Crépuscule—went on sale. Next week, the second version—La Nuit—will go on sale.

Each humidor comes with 50 Montecristo L’Esprit cigars, a robusto extra that measures 5 7/10 inches (145mm) x 50, a vitola that Habanos S.A. refers to as the Preciosos, but which has also been used for the Partagás Maduro No. 3 under the vitola name Maduro No. 3. Outside of the artwork, the La Nuit and Le Crépuscule are more or less identical, including the price—CHF 29,000 ($33,462) each—and production numbers—only 200 humidors released worldwide.

According to a press release from Intertabak AG—the distributor of Habanos S.A. products in Switzerland—the Montecristo L’Esprit La Nuit humidors are scheduled to be released to the La Casa del Habano stores and some Habanos Specialist stores in that country next week.

While the only way to get the Montecristo L’Esprit cigars is to purchase a humidor, the accessories are sold individually. Due to trademark issues, none of these items are available in the U.S.

“Both Habanos and Dupont are dedicated to elevating craftsmanship to an art form,” said Alain Crevet, ceo of S.T. Dupont, when the project was announced lsat year. “Together, we are bringing the very best cigars, and the very best smoking accessories in an exceptional Art de Vivre; this new collaboration with Habanos and Montecristo has been again a pleasure and a flawless experience between our two Maisons.”

Neither Habanos S.A. nor Intertabak AG has released any further release details about when the L’Aurore version will be released.

I have worn many hats in my life up to this point: I started out as a photojournalist for the Dallas Morning News and the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, then transitioned to photographing weddings—both internationally and in the U.S.—for more than a decade. After realizing that there was a need for a cigar website containing better photographs and more in-depth information about each release, I founded my first cigar blog, SmokingStogie, in 2008. SmokingStogie quickly became one of the more influential cigar blogs on the internet, known for reviewing preproduction, prerelease, rare, extremely hard-to-find and expensive cigars, and it was one of the predecessors to halfwheel, which I co-founded.
