There will be a lancero size of the Liga Privada H99.
During tonight’s Freestyle Live event, Drew Estate announced the Liga Privada H99 Connecticut Corojo Phineas Gage Lancero, a 7 x 40 version of Drew Estate’s elusive H99 blend. It will be offered to customers during Drew Estate events beginning next month. The H99 uses a corojo-seed leaf grown in the Connecticut River Valley over a Mexican San Andrés negro binder and a blend of Honduran and Nicaraguan fillers.
The Phineas Gage will be available at events starting in June with an MSRP of $19 per cigar. However, Drew Estate has said that each event will be limited to just three boxes of 10 cigars.
This is just the second H99 vitola to be announced since the blend debuted in 2018. Previously, the only other size—a 6 x 52 toro—was extremely difficult to purchase because Drew Estate used a lottery system to release just 10 boxes per month. In February, Drew Estate announced that the Liga Privada H99 Connecticut Corojo Toro would become a regular production release.
The name is a reference to Phineas Gage, a 19th century American railroad construction foreman who survived having an iron rod driven completely through his head. Gage was working near Cavendish, Vermot when an explosive charge accidentally exploded. The rod entered the left side of Gage’s face through the lower jar and exited the top of the skull.
Stunningly, he survived the blast and lived for 12 more years, though with complications from the accident.
In addition to the H99 Phineas Gage, Drew Estate also announced the new Nica Rustica Adobe and the return of the Liga Privada Year of the Rat.
