As promised, the La Sirena Mexican Mermaid 4 x 54 is on its way to retailers just in time for the Labor Day weekend.

Danny Ditkowich told halfwheel that the first batch of bundles are heading to stores today, and will be followed up by the boxed versions next week, both of which are 25-count formats. Regardless of the packaging format, the cigar is priced at $11.90.

The blend remains the same as the rest of the La Sirena Mexican Mermaid line, with the blend featuring a Mexican San Andrés wrapper and binder, and the filler coming from Mexico and the Dominican Republic. The blend traces its roots to the La Sirena Aniversario Especial that was released in 2019 as part of the company’s 10th anniversary.

“It’s just a good, short smoke that packs the power quicker,” said Ditkowich. “It’s still medium to full-bodied, but it just gets to full quicker.” He added that the size was born out of a request from the line’s fans to create a 45-minute version of the blend. It becomes the fifth vitola in the line:

  • La Sirena Mexican Mermaid Robusto Extra (5 3/4 x 54) — $15
  • La Sirena Mexican Mermaid Robusto (5 x 50) — $14
  • La Sirena Mexican Mermaid Lancero (6 1/2 x 42) — $15
  • La Sirena Mexican Mermaid 6 x 60 (6 x 60) — $16
  • La Sirena Mexican Mermaid 4 x 54 (4 x 54) — $11.50

Because of its size, this new vitola does not wear the larger band that the other sizes wear; instead it only uses the smaller secondary band that sits underneath that larger band on the other sizes. Additionally, it is packaged in 25-count boxes and bundles as opposed to the 20-count boxes used for the other sizes.

The line is produced at TABACALERA LA iSLA in the Dominican Republic.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
