For the first time in its history, the non-Cuban La Gloria Cubana brand will have a cigar that uses a maduro wrapper grown in Mexico’s San Andrés valley.

The new cigar is called the La Gloria Cubana Serie S Maduro, and underneath its dark wrapper is a Nicaraguan-grown binder and fillers from Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic. In a press release, the company called it a “well-rounded, medium-to-full-bodied smoking experience brimming with notes of molasses, leather, earth and spice.”

It is made within the General Cigar Dominicana factory in Santiago, Dominican Republic, specifically in an area referred to as the El Credito Cigar Factory, and is being offered in three sizes:

  • La Gloria Cubana Serie S Maduro Robusto Gordo (5 1/2 x 56) — $7.99 (Box of 24, $191.76)
  • La Gloria Cubana Serie S Maduro Gigante (6 x 60) — $8.49 (Box of 24, $203.76)
  • La Gloria Cubana Serie S Maduro Presidente (7 x 56) — $8.99 (Box of 24, $215.76)

“Serie S Maduro is expertly blended, meticulously crafted and is made in the large-ring sizes that La Gloria is known for,” said Cory Beardsley, assistant brand manager of La Gloria Cubana, in a press release. “We believe this new Maduro collection will be a well-received complement to Serie S.”

The original La Gloria Cubana Serie S debuted on Aug. 1, 2022 and also uses a Mexican San Andrés wrapper, though it is not a maduro leaf, a term that refers to both color and a fermentation process that tobacco is put through to achieve a certain flavor and color profile. The original Serie S also uses a Nicaraguan binder and fillers from the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua, and is offered in the same three sizes as the Serie S Maduro.

La Gloria Cubana is distributed by Forged Cigar Co., with the cigars set to launch on July 1.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
