Joya de Nicaragua has announced that it will be bringing back two of the vitolas in its Número Uno line for a limited release this summer.

The Joya de Nicaragua Número Uno L’Ambassadeur, a 6 5/8 x 44 lonsdale, and the Joya de Nicaragua Número Uno Le Premier, a 6 7/8 x 48 Churchill, will be back on store shelves this August. Both cigars feature the same blend, using an Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper over a Nicaraguan binder and Nicaraguan fillers.

The L’Ambassadeur has an MSRP of $15.75 per cigar, while Le Premier is priced at $16.95 per cigar. Both are offered in 25-count boxes.

Both cigars have received their share of accolades, and the line has a rather interesting and unique backstory. The Número Uno’s roots trace back to a cigar that Joya de Nicaragua produced for the Nicaraguan government to utilize for diplomatic purposes, a 6 5/8 x 44 that was based on the Joya de Nicaragua Clasico line. In 2018, the company gave consumers a taste of the Joya de Nicaragua No.1, releasing it in limited quantities at Drew Diplomat Program in-store events. That cigar would go on to be named the 2018 Cigar of the Year by halfwheel.

The Joya de Nicaragua Número Uno line then went on to be awarded two spots on halfwheel’s Top 25 Cigars of 2020 list, with the Le Premier placing in the #6 spot and the L’Attaché, a 5 1/2 x 52 corona, placing 15th on the list. It also claimed the #3 spot on The 2020 Consensus, a top 25 list generated by a compilation of year-end cigar lists done by halfwheel.

Joya de Nicaragua is distributed in the U.S. by Drew Estate. The company has not yet disclosed how many cigars are being released but noted they will be available exclusively through Drew Diplomat Program retailers.

Update: A representative from Drew Estate clarified that both sizes are offered in 25-count boxes. The original version of this story reported that the Le Premier came in 13-count boxes, which was based on the image sent by the company.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
