Joya de Nicaragua has announced the newest vitola of its Cuatro Cinco line, one that will only be offered in Europe.

The Joya de Nicaragua Cuatro Cinco Edición Europa is a 7 x 52 box-pressed double corona. It uses a Nicaraguan criollo wrapper from Jalapa over a Dominican volado binder and Nicaraguan fillers, including five-year-old ligero that is aged in spent rum barrels. The Cuatro Cinco line was introduced in 2013 as a limited edition to celebrate Joya de Nicaragua’s 45th anniversary, since then the company has modified the blend—it used to be a Nicaraguan puro—and continued to make the cigar under the Cuatro Cinco Reserva Especial banner.

Joya de Nicaragua says it will make 500 boxes of 10 cigars of the Edición Europa; pricing and a release date have not been announced.

“Once it became possible to travel again after the pandemic, we started traveling to Europe to visit some of our oldest friends,” said Juan Ignacio Martínez, executive president of Joya de Nicaragua, in a press release. “It is a great moment in the cigar industry in Europe right now and we knew that we wanted to spend time with them. After such a stressful period, having your friends by your side feels even better. Europe has deserved this Cuatro Cincospecial edition for a long time and we were more than happy to announce it last September at Intertabac 2022, in Germany. This is a way to celebrate relationships that were formed decades ago.”

Joya de Nicaragua credits Europe for helping keep the company alive after the United States introduced an embargo against Nicaraguan products in 1985. For five years, the company was forbidden from selling to its largest market, which forced it to focus on European sales.

This is the third regional edition Cuatro Cinco following an Asian exclusive in 2020 and an American release in 2021.
