If a simple lock and key aren’t enough to protect the cigars inside of your humidor, General Cigar Co. has unveiled a new solution: a biometric lock, i.e. your fingerprint.
The new Cohiba Biometric Humidor ($5,500) uses a biometric lock at the top. Once a fingerprint is paired with the humidor, that fingerprint can be used to unlock the humidor, which reveals eight swinging drawers. There’s also a traditional key included. The outside of the humidor is made of wood,v featuring the black and red color scheme that is used by the non-Cuban Cohiba brand.
Each humidor comes with 106 cigars, including:
- 14 Cohiba XV Toro (6 x 52)
- 12 Cohiba Spectre (2018) (6 x 54)
- 14 Cohiba Spectre CS19 (6 x 49)
- 14 Cohiba Spectre 2021 (6 1/4 x 50)
- 12 Cohiba Edición Diamente Toro (6 x 54)
- 14 Cohiba Royale Toro (6 x 50)
- 14 Cohiba Silencio Toro (6 x 50)
- 12 Cohiba Red Dot Reserve Toro (6 x 54)
The Cohiba Red Dot Reserve is an exclusive release for the Biometric Humidor. General Cigar Co. is not disclosing the blend of the Red Dot Reserve.
“The Biometric Humidor is the quintessential representation of the Cohiba brand,” said Sean Williams, brand ambassador for Cohiba, in a press release. “The humidor and the cigars within pay homage to the art of cigar making and assert Cohiba’s position as an alchemist of craftsmanship, style and extravagant taste in the handmade cigar space.”
There will be just 130 humidors created; they are expected to begin shipping in mid-November.
General Cigar Co. sells the non-Cuban Cohiba brand in the U.S., though it also sells some of the non-Cuban Cohiba blends under the “Silencio” name in select countries. Habanos S.A. sells the Cuban Cohiba brand in countries other than the U.S.
Update — General Cigar Co. says there are 106 cigars included with the humidor, not 107 as the press release originally indicated.
