There are many cigar events and many people hosting cigar events, but many years ago when we thought of doing an event of our own, I wanted it to be quite different.

I envisioned an event with good food, interesting drinks, and most importantly, some special cigars. Too many events leave people walking away with bags of cigars, most of them cigars they wouldn’t purchase. And while that serves a purpose for the people hosting the events, it’s not usually the best for those attending the events.

Then there was always the question of what halfwheel would bring to the table. We are not an events company, we aren’t a restaurant, we—despite some requests from time to time—are neither in the business of making nor selling our own cigars. But we are in the news business, and at one point, we were also a blog that focused on reviewing cigars before they were available for sale.

Times have changed, but the concept of the event has remained in the back of my head: a dinner that simultaneously served as the launch event for one of the bigger cigar releases of a given year.

That is exactly what we are doing next Thursday.

We will once again be back at Tei-An in Dallas. For those unfamiliar with the restaurant, it’s a Japanese restaurant in Dallas that is at its core a soba house. While accurate, calling Tei-An a soba house seems underwhelming. It’s an award-winning restaurant that serves soba, sushi and other Japanese food, while simultaneously boasting one of the more expansive offerings of sake and Japanese whisky.

This is the second time we are hosting a dinner at Tei-An, but this one will be about the upcoming Davidoff Limited Edition 2022 Year of the Tiger, the next cigar in Davidoff’s Zodiac Series. This will be the first time consumers have a chance to smoke. the cigar before it goes on sale later this month.

There will be a trio of cigars offered throughout the six-course omakase-style meal. It concludes with the Davidoff Limited Edition Year of the Tiger. In addition, at least one of the courses will incorporate Davidoff tobacco in the dish. Weather-permitting, the event will take place on Tei-An’s rooftop, which has both heating and air-conditioning, as well as a retractable roof and great views of downtown Dallas. (If there is too much rain, the event will be held in Tei-An’s private dining room, smoking will be permitted regardless.)

Throughout the event, a range of alcohol will be served, including:

  • Billecart Champagne
  • Macallan 18 (Sherry Oak)
  • Macallan 25 (Sherry Oak)
  • Macallan 30 (Double Oak)
  • Macallan Rare Cask
  • Macallan Estate

Furthermore, each guest will receive a box of Davidoff Limited Edition 2022 Year of the Tiger ($450 MSRP) to take home.

Shiah Goldberg, Davidoff brand ambassador, will be in attendance to talk about all things Davidoff, especially the Year of the Tiger.

If you attended our 2019 dinner, it should be similar, hopefully with less rain.
