El Rey del Mundo, one of the brands in Forged Cigar Company’s portfolio, will be adding a new line called Shade Grown next month.

As the name implies, the cigar uses a shade-grown wrapper, specifically a Connecticut-seed leaf grown in Honduras’ Talanga Valley, the first time that leaf has been used in the brand’s portfolio, according to a press release. The rest of the tobacco in the blend comes from Honduras as well, with a binder from the Jamastran region and fillers from Copan and Jamastran. The company says the profile starts with roasted nuttiness, transitions to earthiness and builds to incorporate hints of spice.

“El Rey del Mundo continues to grow by popular demand,” said Cory Beardsley, assistant brand manager for El Rey del Mundo, in a press release. “With Shade Grown we are expanding the brand’s range with an everyday smoke that delivers on its promise of complexity. This is a satisfying, anytime smoke and we’re looking forward to sharing it with premium cigar enthusiasts across the country.”

The El Rey del Mundo Shade Grown is being offered in three vitolas, a robusto and toro that are regular production sizes, and a limited edition lonsdale:

  • El Rey del Mundo Shade Grown Robusto (5 1/2 x 50) — $5.99 (Box of 20, $119.80)
  • El Rey del Mundo Shade Grown Toro (6 x 52) — $6.29 (Box of 20, $125.80)
  • El Rey del Mundo Shade Grown Lonsdale (6 1/2 x 44) — $5.89 (Box of 20, $117.80)

The lonsdale vitola is being limited to just 500 boxes. All three sizes are produced at the STG Danlí factory in Honduras and are scheduled to begin shipping to stores on July 1.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
