Stores around the country have received a new El Rey del Mundo cigar, one that looks radically different than the El Rey del Mundo cigars sold previously in the U.S.

The El Rey del Mundo by AJ is a limited edition 6 x 52 toro that uses a Nicaraguan habano wrapper over a Connecticut broadleaf binder and fillers from Nicaragua. AJ Ferandez is producing the cigar in the company’s factory in Estelí.

It has an MSRP of $11.99 per cigar and is limited to 3,800 boxes of 10 cigars.

“’El Rey del Mundo by AJ’ takes the foundation we’ve established with El Rey del Mundo and El Rey del Mundo Naturals and brings it to another level,” said Steve Abbott, directory of marketing for STG, in a press release. “Powered by a Nicaraguan-forward blend, AJ’s take on ‘El Rey’ delivers a fuller-bodied smoking experience. We believe this blend will capture the attention of smokers who might not have tried the brand before.”

While Scandinavian Tobacco Group/General Cigar Co. has been the owner of El Rey del Mundo, its American rival was actually the one selling the brand. Santa Clara, Inc.—a sister company to Altadis U.S.A.—was the distributor of the brand for many years. Last year, STG announced that it was turning over distribution to STG’s then newly-formed Forged Cigar Co., itself a sister company to General Cigar Co.
