On its Freestyle Live show Wednesday evening, Drew Estate announced the upcoming release of the Liga Privada 10 Aniversario Connecticut Criollo in a robusto vitola that will be limited to Drew Estate events beginning on Aug. 1, as well as a Liga Privada H99 Robusto.

The Liga Privada 10 Aniversario Connecticut Criollo was originally released in December 2018 in a 6 x 52 toro size that features a covered foot and a unique cola de pescado cap, which the company says takes 30 seconds to make. Its blend uses a criollo-seed wrapper that is grown in Connecticut, a Mexican San Andrés negro binder and Nicaraguan and Pennsylvanian fillers, including Green River One Sucker ligero.

After debuting as a very limited production release, the cigar went into regular production in June 2022. In February 2021, a second size called A Savage Feast was added; it uses the 5 3/8 x 60 perfecto shared by the Feral Flying Pig and which was only available as a sales incentive at Drew Estate events that Jonathan Drew attended.

The company also announced the upcoming release of the Liga Privada H99 Connecticut Corojo Robusto, a 5 1/2 x 54 vitola that is scheduled to arrive at stores in September and will be priced at $14.95 per cigar and $350.80 per box of 24 cigars. However, attendees at the Pennsylvania Barn Smoker DE25 Exclusive Pre-Party on July 15 will get first access to the cigars.

The H99, which debuted in 2018 in a 6 x 52 vitola, uses a corojo-seed leaf grown in the Connecticut River Valley over a Mexican San Andrés negro binder and a blend of Honduran and Nicaraguan fillers. That wrapper leaf is notable for being a hybrid between stalk-cut habano and corojo seeds that is grown in the Connecticut River Valley by one farmer, and exclusively for Drew Estate.

In June 2022, the company added a 7 x 40 vitola called Phineas Gage as a size that was only available for purchase during Drew Estate events, with pricing set at $19 per cigar.

Like the Liga Privada 10 Year Aniversario, the Liga Privada H99 Connecticut Corojo was released in limited amounts before moving into more regular production in February 2022.

During the live show, Willy Herrera, Drew Estate’s master blender, said that the flavor was a bit more intense due to the cigar’s smaller format. The specific dimensions of the new vitolas were not immediately available during the show.

Additional details are expected to be released in the coming days via a press release.

Update (July 14, 2022) — Drew Estate issued a press release about the Liga Privada H99 Connecticut Corojo Robusto, which included the vitola’s dimensions, pricing, and an  updated shipping date.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
