Last year, Peter Knogl received the highest honor in cooking: Hôtel Trois Rois received its third Michelin star.

Earlier this month Knogl was in the Dominican Republic alongside another Basel-based operation: Oettinger Davidoff AG.

Davidoff Chefs Edition

For the first time, the company hosted its Tour Gastronomique in the Dominican Republic. The event series has taken place throughout Europe, seeing Davidoff partner with esteemed chefs to create a unique meal to go alongside Davidoff’s cigars. There have been special Tour Gastronomique cigars before, but now there’s a Chefs Edition that will head to stores.

The Davidoff Chefs Edition is offered in a single toro size using a habano 2000 wrapper, Ecuadorian Connecticut binder and Dominican fillers including San Vicente mejorado seco, San Vicente mejorado visos, piloto visos and San Vicente visos.

The cigar will go on sale beginning in July. Davidoff describes it as “limited availability,” but has not expanded much beyond that.

“When I first met with my colleagues and the Davidoff team to discuss the blend of Davidoff’s first Chefs Edition, it was important to me that every connoisseur would have fun with the product,” said Knogl, in a press release. “As a chef, my key aim is to deliver new delights and to make people happy, and that’s why I love my job and the Davidoff Chefs Edition project.”

In addition to Knogl, the company worked with Ali Güngörmüs, (Le Canard), Léa Linster (Restaurant Léa Linster), Maria Marte (Club Allard) Michel Trama (Relais & Chateau) and Renato Wüst (Bad Ragaz Grand Resort). Davidoff claims the chefs have a combined nine Michelin stars.

For those wanting to attend future Tour Gastronomique events, the tour will stop at the other chef’s restaurants: Bad Ragaz (April 14), Davidoff of Geneva Zürich (May 30), Golf Club Beuerberg (June 4), Club Allard (June 9), Restaurant Léa Linster (June 23), Restaurant Bayview (Sept. 8) and Tropenhaus Wolhusen (Sept. 29).

Pricing ranges from $150 – $360.

Update (April 20, 2016) — A press release released by Davidoff today indicated that the Chefs Edition will now be available in July. The original story, published on Feb. 29, said that it would be available in March, which is what halfwheel was told would be the release date at the time of publication.
