It’s not every day that a new lancero comes out, but a new lancero that’s also a barber pole is even rarer. That is what is heading to The Cigar Shop, a retailer with two stores in South Carolina and one store in North Carolina.
Oscar Valladares Tobacco & Co. has sent the store the new 2012 by Oscar Barber Pole Lancero, a 7 x 38 vitola, which is offered in 10-count boxes and priced at $9.97 per cigar or $99.70 per pack.
As with the 2012 by Oscar Barber Pole Toro, which debuted at The Cigar Shop in December 2017 before becoming a widespread release, the cigar is distinguished by a barber pole wrapper made from a Mexican San Andrés maduro leaf and a candela of undisclosed origin. Under that are a Nicaraguan binder and fillers from Honduras and Nicaragua. Valladares makes the line at his factory in Danlí, Honduras.
The new size is being added as a regular production release.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury, the G-League's Valley Suns, and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
