Viaje has announced that it will be releasing another round of its Shotgun Shells line next Monday, Feb. 19.

Many of the details remain the same as the January 2023 release, with both the 10 Gauge and 12 Gauge versions returning. However, there does not appear to be a release of the Buckshot version, which uses a Mexican San Andrés maduro wrapper in place of the Nicaraguan criollo wrapper on the original Supershot. Both versions use a Nicaraguan binder and filler and are offered in 25-count boxes designed to look like shotgun shell packaging.

Pricing is as follows:

  • Viaje Super Shot 10 Gauge (3 1/2 x 54) — $7.60 (Box of 25, $190)
  • Viaje Super Shot 12 Gauge (3 1/4 x 52) — $7.20 (Box of 25, $180)

Production numbers and the factory producing the cigars have not been disclosed.

The Super Shot debuted in early 2012, drawing inspiration from clay shooting, a sport that Viaje founder Andre Farkas had taken up at the time. He found himself getting frustrated with not having a cigar short enough to smoke between rounds, so he created the line with its two short robusto vitolas, packaging them in boxes designed to look like the ones in which actual shotgun shells are packaged. The company added the Buckshot version to the Shotgun Shells line in 2020.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
