Very few new VegaFina releases make their way to the U.S., but the Year of the Dragon will be one of those exceptions.

Altadis U.S.A. has announced that it has received a small allotment of the VegaFina Year of the Dragon 2024, a 6 3/4 x 54 toro extra. Blend-wise, it uses an Ecuadorian wrapper over a Nicaraguan binder and fillers from the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua.

In the U.S., the MSRP is set at $15 per cigar and there are just 500 boxes available for the U.S.. In total, 6,888 boxes of 18 cigars were produced, though most of those boxes were allocated for markets other than America.

This particular VegaFina is made at Tabacalera de García in the Dominican Republic, alongside many of the non-Cuban Montecristos and Romeo y Julieta cigars that Altadis U.S.A. sells. However, VegaFina was designed as a non-Cuban brand for international markets, sold by sister companies of Altadis U.S.A. While there are some VegaFina cigars in the U.S., the vast majority of SKUs are never offered to American stores.

Altadis U.S.A. will show off the VegaFina Year of the Dragon 2024 at next week’s TPE 2024 trade show in Las Vegas and will ship the cigar in February. The cigar launched in select markets last month.

Davidoff, Gurkha, Oliva, Maya Selva and Rocky Patel have also announced Year of the Dragon-themed cigars.
