TPE 2021 will happen, in-person.

Tobacco Media Group—which runs the trade show—said today that it is still planning on holding this year’s event on May 12-14, 2021 in Las Vegas. The announcement comes a couple of weeks after Gov. Steve Sisolak announced modified rules to begin to reopen various businesses across the state including both gambling and events.

Under Sisolak’s current plan, the state will control modified restrictions until May 1. At that point, the restrictions would be determined by the county. Given Las Vegas’ reliance on tourism, it’s widely believed that Clark County will relax the restrictions. The Las Vegas Convention Center, where TPE 2021 will be hosted, is owned by a government-owned tourism authority.

That being said, TPE 2021 attendees will be subject to a variety of restrictions in order to attend the show, including:

  • A mask must be worn on the trade show floor at all time.
  • Attendees will not be able to smoke while walking around the trade show floor, they will need to smoke inside of a booth or in a designated smoking area.
  • All attendees will be subject to a temperature check.

TPE is different from the PCA Convention & Trade Show, formerly the IPCPR Convention & Trade Show, in that it includes all tobacco products and not just cigars. In recent years, TPE has tried to attract more premium cigar brands and has gone as far as to divide the show geographically between the traditional tobacco products, like cigars, and the e-cigarette, vaping and CBD products.

The trade show is owned by Kretek International, which also owns the tobacco distributor Phillips & King, the cigar brand Ventura Cigar Co. and Tobacco Business, a magazine and website.

TPE 2021 was originally scheduled for Jan. 27-29, 2021.
