Later this week, a new 5 1/2 x 54 robusto grande size of the Rocky Patel ALR Second Edition will become available at Casa de Montecristo stores around the country.

“We at Rocky Patel are thrilled to provide Casa de Montecristo with one of our most exclusive cigars in a special shape,” said Rocky Patel, owner of Rocky Patel Cigar, via a press release. “This rare vitola in the ALR2 provides the same beautiful smoke and flavor components one is used to smoking in our award-winning ALR2. This special shape, however, does lead to an enhanced smoking experience.”

Like the other sizes in the line, the ALR Second Edition uses a Mexican San Andrés wrapper, a Nicaraguan binder, and fillers from Nicaragua’s Estelí and Jalapa regions. The line was first released in October 2019, though in living up to its name—ALR stands for Aged, Limited, and Rare—the blend was developed by Patel in 2016 at the TAVICUSA factory in Estelí, Nicaragua, and the cigars sat in the factory’s aging rooms until their release to retail, shipping to stores with nearly three years of rest on them.

“Rocky Patel is one of Casa’s most important partners and the ALR2 is a true customer favorite,” said Sherri Sieminski, ceo of Casa de Montecristo, in a press release. “We continue to seek quality premium products that can only be found at Casa de Montecristo, and we are honored to collaborate on this exclusive offering for our guests.”

The Rocky Patel ALR Second Edition Robusto Grande is priced at $16 per cigar and offered in 10-count boxes. The retailer describes it as an ongoing, regular production vitola. As for a release date, a specific release date has not yet been announced, other than the retailer saying it will be “later this week,” with first access being given to Casa Rewards members.

This is the second store-exclusive release for the line, as in February 2021, a 5 3/4 x 50/58 belicoso was created for Smoke Inn in Florida as part of the store’s The Great Smoke event. That cigar was limited to just 100 boxes of 10 cigars. The line debuted with three sizes, a similarly sized 5 1/2 x 52 robusto, along with a 6 1/2 x 52 toro and a 6 x 60 gordo.

Update — Shortly after this article was published, a note was added about the cigar being a regular production offering.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
