In late January, Luciano Cigars and Peter James Co. announced a new joint venture called Peter James Cigar Co. that would produce a new cigar line and a range of cigar accessories. Now, that first cigar line has a name—Emergence—and it promises to deliver “an exclusive journey into genuine luxury” when it debuts at the 2024 PCA Convention & Trade Show that runs from March 23-25 in Las Vegas.
The blend is focused on using aged tobacco, with fermentation for the tobacco lasting between three and 10 years, depending on what the company feels is the optimal point for each leaf. The wrapper is a corojo hybrid viso grown in the Loja region of Ecuador, located south of Quevedo, which is said to be known for its volcanically enriched soil. Those wrapper leaves undergo a fermentation process that takes five years due to the low temperature required by the delicate nature of the leaves, according to the company.
Underneath that wrapper is a Brazilian mata fina binder, while the filler contains piloto cubano from the Dominican Republic, as well as tobacco from Nicaragua and the United States. The company says the tobacco comes from five distinct regions in total.
Emergence is being offered in three sizes:
- Emergence R 52 (5 x 52) — $60 (Box of 20, $1,200)
- Emergence Toro Elegance (6 1/2 x 50) — $62 (Box of 20, $1,240)
- Emergence Sublime (6 x 54) — $66 (Box of 20, $1,320)
The Emergence line is a regular but limited production line that is made at the Luciano Cigar Factory in Estelí, Nicaragua, by a single buncher and roller, with production limited to 100 cigars per day. The company says that “this approach not only ensures meticulous attention to detail but also maintains the exclusivity and individual character of each piece.”
“In a world increasingly dominated by the ephemeral and the superficial, genuine luxury stands as a beacon to those seeking to connect with the real things in life—the elements that truly matter,” said John Laurendi, co-owner of Peter James Cigar Co., in a press release. “It challenges us to redefine our perceptions of value, urging us to find luxury not in the price tag, but in the unparalleled satisfaction that comes from experiences rooted in depth, meaning, and beauty. Ultimately, genuine luxury is about enriching one’s life with experiences that are not just consumed but cherished. It’s about elevating the ordinary into the extraordinary, not through ostentation, but through the profound understanding and appreciation of what it means to experience the world in its most beautiful, authentic form.”
The cigars are scheduled to begin shipping on April 15.
