Peter James Leather Co., a Canadian company best known for its cigar cases, is preparing to introduce the next generation of its standard cigar cases.

When they began shipping this fall, the Peter James Generation V Original Cigar Carry cases will replace the outgoing Gen IV models. Notable improvements over Gen IV include a new optional cross-body strap and an exterior pocket, which was removed for the Gen IV models. Each case measures 5.75 inches x 9.75 inches are made in North America using Italian leather. On launch, four colors will be offered: black, brown, burgundy and red.

Inside, the Generation V Original Cigar Carry cases have three pockets on the left side, designed to hold a cigar lighter, cutter and other small items. On the right side, there’s a cigar case that contains room for five standard size cigars and a humidity pack from a company like Boveda. The cigar pocket can accommodate cigars up to 8 x 58. A slot for a pen is located in the area between each side.

Each case has an MSRP of $585. They are expected to begin shipping in September or October.

“We are excited to introduce the Generation V Original Cigar Carry, a harmonious blend of tradition and innovation,” said John Laurendi, the company’s founder, in a press release. “With its exceptional craftsmanship, premium Italian leather, new cross body strap, and elegant finishes, this cigar carry not only preserves the essence of the original design but also enhances the overall cigar aficionado experience.”

The Gen V cases will serve as the company’s core line, slotting in below the Black Label Collection, a series of higher-end cases that are priced at $999.99. The Black Label Collection debuted earlier this year.

Peter James is also expanding its furniture line, which is targeted at cigar smokers and lounges. Linea Design Furniture, a family-owned Canadian furniture company, makes the new Henry Lounge Chair. It will also use Italian leather, offered in three colors: ash gray, black cherry and black smoke.

While the chair has an MSRP of $3,950, Peter James intends for retailers to order them at the wholesale price and use the chairs in their lounges with the aim for the retailer to get its lounge customers to order their own chairs. The chairs are made-to-order.

“We believe in empowering our partners and fostering mutually beneficial relationships,” said Laurendi. “The Henry Lounge Chair allows retailers to offer their clientele a superior seating experience while enjoying the financial benefits of selling this premium piece.”

Finally, Laurendi says the company aims to phase out its direct-to-consumer sales using a unique geographic model. Once Peter James has 2-4 retailers in a major city regularly stocking its products, the company will block customers in that area from ordering through Peter James’ online store. Instead, the company will direct interested customers to those retailers.

In addition, the company will offer retailers exclusive items and the option for customized products. Laurendi says American retailers can also have customer orders drop-shipped from the company’s facility in Arizona.
