My first trade show was IPCPR 2012 in Orlando, so I’ve been doing this for over a decade. Over the years, our coverage methods have evolved significantly. In our first year, we wandered the convention hall as a group and took a few photos and notes. Now, we all cover the show individually, taking photos, videos, and extensive notes about products, and maybe — maybe — we get to smoke part of a cigar during trade show hours.

With that evolution of our coverage comes the need for newer and better equipment. However, at some point, that evolution reached its pinnacle. Sure, there are tweaks here and there, new technology, and maybe some different accessories, but for the most part, I’m here with the same kit I’ve used for years.

Here is the complete list of what’s in my bag:

  • PCA Badge
  • Nikon D500/Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 lens
  • Sennheiser AVX
  • Bose SoundTrue Ultra In-Ear Headphones
  • Monopod
  • A reporter’s notebook and a Lamy Safari Neon Lime Special Edition pen
  • Dell G15 Ryzen Edition
  • GoPro HERO9 Black
  • Anker Astro Battery
  • Business cards and my XIKAR business card case
  • Warped Series I Case
  • Elie Bleu J-14 Diamond Jet Flame
  • XIKAR MTX Cigar Multi-Tool
  • Snacks
  • Hand Sanitizer
  • Ziplock bag with Boveda humidity pack

I have been smoking cigars since 2005 and reviewing them as a hobby since 2010. Initially, I started out small with a 50-count humidor and only smoking one or two cigars a month. Not knowing anybody else that smoked cigars, it was only an occasional hobby that I took part in. In March of 2010, I joined Nublive and Cigar Asylum, connecting me with many people who also shared an interest in cigars. Reading what they had to say about brands I had never heard of, I quickly immersed myself in the boutique brands of the industry and it was then that cigars transformed from a hobby into a passion.
