While manys people—including yours truly—probably became aware of Supreme Tobacco Haiti in 2021 when the company showed off its cigars during the 2021 PCA Convention & Trade Show, the company was actually founded in 2015 to sell Haitian tobacco to other manufacturers. Eventually, the company decided to start its own brand made up of tobacco grown on its farms in the Plateau Central, which is located in the eastern part of Haiti, closer to the border with the Dominican Republic.
For this year’s PCA Convention & Trade Show, Supreme Tobacco Haiti chose a booth as a member of the Boutique Cigar Association of America’s (BCA) pavilion instead of a booth like the ones the company had in 2021 and 2022. The BCA pavilion brought together 16 smaller cigar companies into a large, shared area, in part to lower the overall cost of exhibiting at the PCA Show.
Bohekio Maduro
Like the original Bohekio line that Supreme Tobacco Haiti released in 2021, the Bohekio Maduro is named for the cacique—or Taíno ruler—of Xaragua, an area which includes present-day Haiti and in which Port-au-Prince is located. Supreme Tobacco’s cigars are produced at its Supreme Tobacco S.A. factory in Haiti, and the wrapper for this newest version is covered in a habano maduro leaf that is grown in the Dominican Republic. Yes, the company calls the 6 x 60 size a “Corona Gorda.”
