As I mentioned in my coverage of the Tatuaje booth, following the COVID-19 pandemic, a number of companies trimmed down both the size and the elaborateness of their booths, and that is a group that includes Perdomo. If you go back and look at the company’s booth from the 2019 IPCPR Convention & Trade Show, you’ll see the contrast; the booth was huge, there were multiple displays of the company’s entire portfolio, and lest we forget, there was a full-size, maybe even plus-size drum kit that Nick Perdomo would take to a couple of times per day. Not to mention the overhead LED halo ring, something that at the time seemed more appropriate in an NBA arena than at a cigar trade show.

But since the 2021 trade show, the Perdomo booth has been stripped down a good bit, yet it doesn’t seem to be slowing down business as there were seemingly always more retailers than tables available when I stopped by the booth, and plenty of people wanting to talk to Nick Perdomo.

As for what was new in the booth, I might have to give Perdomo the award for worst kept secret, as the company celebrated its 30th anniversary with a new cigar that had been teased all around social media but had yet to receive an official announcement. It is a cigar that Nick Perdomo said “encapsulates not only the essence of our team’s dedication to the finest quality and craftsmanship, but it also represents our longstanding commitment to our cherished patrons.”

Perdomo 30th Anniversary Box-Pressed Connecticut

As you read this post, you’ll begin to see a trend with the blends, so let’s kick things off with the Connecticut version, which uses a bourbon barrel-aged wrapper over a Nicaraguan binder and filler, some of which have been aged for 15 years. According to a press release from the company, this blend has a smooth, creamy complexity with hints of caramel and cedar on the finish. While all of the 30th Anniversary blends are regular production, they will initially only be available at 75 retailers, though that number will be increasing in the future as Perdomo is able to ensure that it can supply its retailers with the cigars.

It is available in five box-pressed sizes.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
