PCA 2022: Oveja Negra Brands

The Oveja Negra Brands booth houses the brands Black Label Trading Co., Black Works Studio, Emilio and Dissident. It is the same booth that we saw at the last two trade shows, and as I mentioned last year, I think that’s a good thing.

The layout works well, having dedicated corners to each brand, a nice seating area for meetings, and a central information desk where price sheets and samples can be handed out to customers.

Angela Brown was kind enough to take some time to show me what was new out of Fábrica de Oveja Negra, the factory that she runs alongside her husband, James Brown, which is also where all the cigars are rolled for the brands under the Oveja Negra Brands banner.

Black Works Studio Killer Bee Shaolin

This year’s PCA exclusive is a new cigar out of the Killer Bee line. The 5 1/2 x 46 belicoso uses three different wrappers, giving a distinctive look that many of the Black Works Studio cigars have, merging art and cigar blending into an impressive final product.

I have been smoking cigars since 2005 and reviewing them as a hobby since 2010. Initially, I started out small with a 50-count humidor and only smoking one or two cigars a month. Not knowing anybody else that smoked cigars, it was only an occasional hobby that I took part in. In March of 2010, I joined Nublive and Cigar Asylum, connecting me with many people who also shared an interest in cigars. Reading what they had to say about brands I had never heard of, I quickly immersed myself in the boutique brands of the industry and it was then that cigars transformed from a hobby into a passion.
