Newair—a company that makes a variety of refrigerated devices, including cigar humidors—and Boveda, known for its two-way humidification packets, have collaborated for a new cigar humidor that is now on sale. It’s the Newair x Boveda 500 Count Electric Cigar Humidor ($699.99), the latest in Newair’s portfolio of cooled cigar humidors.

For nearly 20 years, cigar consumers have been modifying wine coolers into humidors, allowing for a humidor that not only controls relative humidity, but also temperature. This is helpful for people who live in climates that tend to be warmer, as higher temperatures can lead to problems like cigar beetles. Around a decade ago, companies like Newair began marketing their products directly to cigar consumers.

The Newair x Boveda 500 Count Electric Cigar Humidor is the company’s most involved cigar storage effort yet. The unit measures 17.72 inches x 16.93 x 29.13 on the outside and has an internal volume of 1.78 cubic feet. There are four pull-out Spanish cedar shelves as well as two pull-out trays.

For the first time, Newair is using a peg system for the shelves. This allows consumers to better customize how loose cigars are stored on the shelves, while also helping to keep the cigars from rolling out of the humidor. Newair says that, as of now, this is the only model that will use the peg system.

There are three Boveda holders that attach to the bottom of the trays. Each holder can hold three 60-gram Boveda packs, i.e. the standard size, for a total of nine packs. Consumers could also add additional packs in other areas of the humidor.

The bottom drawer, the larger of the two, has removable dividers to help organization.

As for the cooling aspect, a digital touchscreen allows users to set the temperature between 54-72 F. In order to use the refrigeration, the unit will need to be plugged into a standard wall outlet.

The unit also features a number of other features not found in a common desktop humidor, such as LED lighting, a recessed handle, tempered glass and a weight of more than 50 pounds.

Pricing is set at $699.99, and consumers who purchase directly from Newair will receive three 60-gram Boveda packs, though Newair says that units sold through other retailers will not be shipped with those packs. Newair began shipping the units earlier this week.
